CIAE Designated as First IAEA Collaborating Centre for Advanced Technologies for Decommissioning of Research Reactors

On 15 September, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, CAEA Chairman Shan Zhongde, Ambassador Li Song (Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations and other international organisations in Vienna) and CNNC Chief Accountant Wang Xuejun attended a ceremony at which IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov and CNNC Chief Scientist Zhang Shengdong signed the cooperation agreement for the first IAEA Collaborating Centre for Advanced Technologies for Decommissioning of Research Reactors. Following the signing, the plaque was formally awarded.

This designation reflects the IAEA’s high recognition of China’s technical expertise and contributions in the field of research reactor decommissioning. It also marks China’s rising international status and influence in this area. The centre is the second IAEA collaborating centre to be designated at the China Institute of Atomic Energy, following the IAEA collaborating centre on nuclear security at the institute.
